Scooby Doo

Scooby Doo is a long running children's cartoon that many people, including me, loved or still do love. Many people don't realize though that Scooby Doo is typically kids first step into learning and understanding crime, however Scooby Doo does have somethings about it that are questionable.  In Scooby Doo it is shown that you can be one of two things if you are a girl, you can either pretty but dumb or, smart but frumpy. If I were a kid watching this I would learn that I can either be smart or, good looking but not both. Scooby Doo is communicated in a way that is easy for children to relate to and understand. It is also bright a colourful and normally deals with pretty light subjects so kids will enjoy the show and the shows profit will go up because of how many people are watching it. In Scooby Doo being good looking and white is shown in a pretty positive light, for example there are no characters of different skin colours shown in the cartoon, and if there is a character of a darker skin colour they are shown as the monster or villain. Also Velma is shown as an intelligent young lady in the show, however it seems to me the other characters in the show sort of take her for granted or don't listen to her at all. Could this be because she isn't considered attractive in the show and because she is a women? Velma solves the majority of the crimes in the show but doesn't get the recognition she deserve. Through all the episodes of Scooby Doo you will not see on character of a darker skin colour, or ethnicity. If you do see someone that is not white they are shown as monsters or villains. The characters who do the solving of the crime and save the day are all white, this could lead to kids thinking that in order to be the one to save the day you have to be white and that people that have darker skin colours are the bad guys. Scooby Doo explains crime in a way that young kids can understand, for example most of the crimes that take place are committed to gain some kind of profit or power out of it. The crimes are mostly committed by someone who dresses up as some sort of monster to intimidate people or scare people away so they can get what they want from the crime they are committing.
