Robert William Pickton

Robert William Pickton was one of the most brutal serial killers in Canadian history killing around 49 women from all across Vancouver island  and Vancouver. Pickton was convicted of the second degree murders of six women as well as over twenty more women mostly from the downtown east side of Vancouver, of these twenty women the majority of them were drug users and prostitutes. Pickton was a pig farmer living in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Pickton was caught when his farm was searched after the police executed a search warrant for fire arms and found personal belongings of one of the missing women. February 22, 2002, Pickton was arrested for two counts of second degree murder and later three more chargers were added, followed by nine more charges. In 2005 twelve more chargers were added to the other fifteen counts of murder making a total of 27 counts of first degree murder. It is believed that Pickton fed his victims to the pigs on his farm and may have even mixed some of the vi

Are males that commit sexual assault hyper-masculine?

Although not all men who commit sexual assault are hyper-masculine I would argue that the majority of men that commit some sort of sexual assault are hyper-masculine. The majority of men in our society today are taught by the media and by people around them to be strong, powerful, aggressive, tough, controlling men. Women however are being taught that we always have to be the perfect sweet pretty girl. The reason women are being taught this is so we can be perfect for men and almost get some sort of stamp of approval. certain aspects of the media shows women as objects who are only there to impress and please the men men around them. All of this teaches young men that they are entitled to certain things or that women are just there for their own entertainment or pleasure. Since this teaches men that they are entitled to certain things if they are not given those things they feel they are entitled to it may lead them to take it, resulting in sexual assault. Some men commit sexual assaul

What are the impacts on victims of crime?

The impacts of a crime that happens to someone could vary from person to person, one person could be angry and want revenge or another person could be scared or embarrassed and go into isolation it all depends on the type crime that they are a victim of and the person. As we so in the episode of law and order we watched, the character Harper was a victim of a power rape. After Harper was already assaulted she had to go through a series of questions and invasive tests that needed to be done for a rape kit. Harper had to relive through the assault that had just happened to her so its almost like she was assaulted again. Typically these are the factors of short term impacts on victims of violent crimes. further into the episode a few months after the assault had happened to Harper she had moved on from what had happened to her and just didn't want to have to talk about it anymore. She had convinced herself that she was perfectly fine but in reality her life had completely changed. Her

is school one of the most dangerous places for students?

Studies show that violent crimes peak in youth opposed to older people, so does this mean that schools are one of the most dangerous places for students? In my opinion I feel as if school isn't necessarily safe but it also isn't necessarily unsafe. I believe that it really depends on the school the students go to and where the school is, for example if a student goes to a school that's in a really bad area where there's lots of violence and drugs around and the teachers aren't all that involved with their students there may be a higher risk of youth violence in that school or even drug related crimes. Don't get me wrong I know that there are drug related crimes and even violence in every school but as we learned previously in this criminology course, depending on where someone lives or what kind of people they surround themselves with they could be more likely to commit a crime or be a victim of a crime. I also think that if teachers and even parents are involve
