Robert William Pickton

Robert William Pickton was one of the most brutal serial killers in Canadian history killing around 49 women from all across Vancouver island  and Vancouver. Pickton was convicted of the second degree murders of six women as well as over twenty more women mostly from the downtown east side of Vancouver, of these twenty women the majority of them were drug users and prostitutes. Pickton was a pig farmer living in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Pickton was caught when his farm was searched after the police executed a search warrant for fire arms and found personal belongings of one of the missing women. February 22, 2002, Pickton was arrested for two counts of second degree murder and later three more chargers were added, followed by nine more charges. In 2005 twelve more chargers were added to the other fifteen counts of murder making a total of 27 counts of first degree murder. It is believed that Pickton fed his victims to the pigs on his farm and may have even mixed some of the victims flesh into pig meat.  What Pickton did was horrific and unbelievably sad but why did he do it? Pickton killed women who were either sex workers or drug addicts in the lower east side of Vancouver his motives for killing them could have just been that they were sex workers or drug addicts and they were worthless in his point of view.  In my opinion Pickton was a mission-orientated type of serial killer, this means that he may of killed all those women because he felt it was his duty to rid society of them because they are unworthy or less human. Pickton targeted prostitutes and drug addicts which also leads me to believe that he was a mission-orientated type of serial killer. In my opinion we are doing everything we can in Canada to stop these type of people from what they do with out violating anyone's rights. We could make laws stricter and make penalties more harsh but stuff like this would still happen and in my opinion if we were to make laws stricter to try and stop serial killings from happening it could result in some of peoples rights being taken away or violated. No matter what we do there are still gonna be bad people in the world who commit horrific crimes like this and we can`t stop it from happening but we can learn more about how to properly punish people like Robert Pickton and use things like what Robert Pickton did to better understand why people commit such horrific crimes.

In order to be considered a good burglar there are four characteristics you must have according to Neal Shover.  A good burglar should posses many skills needed to commit a successful break and enter. Some of these skills may be gaining entry to peoples homes, choosing items with a high retail value, opening safes with out causing a significant amount of damage being done, and using proper equipment. The second characteristic is that the person should be able to team up and form some sort of criminal gang by choosing trust worthy members that can help get the job done. Crime Media Project

I had chosen to do my crime media project on the television program Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. While watching this program I noticed a few things that were reoccurring trends in the type of crimes that were committed in this show. The majority of the crimes committed in this program are sexual assaults and tied in with the sexual assaults in some cases there are kidnappings and murders. While watching the show I noticed that these crimes were committed because of many different reasons depending on what episode you were to watch. The most typical sexual assaults seen in the show are either one of the three types of sexual assaults, Anger sexual assault, power sexual assault or, less commonly seen in the show is sadistic sexual assault. The show also shows in some episodes gang rape and acquaintance rape or date rape.
